How I came across this movie: I love dance movies: Dirty Dancing, Flash Dance... I have seen them more than once or twice ;) I think Footloose is less known than the ones I mentioned before. I dont know why - its just as good as they are. I saw it a few years ago on TV and then bought the DVD. About this film: Directed by Herbert Ross Footloose was released in 1984. 1985 it was nominated for two Academy Awards:Best Music and Original Song. It got also nominated for the Golden Globes. The soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy: Best Album of Instrumental Score Zac Efron is working on the remake of this movie. It will be released in 2010. Plot: Footloose is about life in an American small town in the 1980s. Ren McCormack is a young man who knows what he wants: dance! He loves rock music and break dance and is a very talented dancer. All this wasnt a problem for him or his mother until one day they move from Chicago to Bomont - a small town where things are a little different. Music, alcohol and dancing have been banned since some teenagers died in a car crash. Reverend Shaw Moore seems to be the "leader" in this village and yet his daughter Ariel doesnt quite follow his rules neither. Despite all conflicts with almost everyone Ren tries to convince the conservative population that rock music has nothing to do with the devil! The story is based on a true incident. Cast: Kevin Bacon: Ren McCormack Lori Singer: Ariel Moore John Lithgow: Reverend Shaw Moore Dianne Wiest: Vi Moore Chris Penn: Willard Hewitt Sarah Jessica Parker: Rusty Music: Powerful, energetic and pulsative! "Footloose" - Kenny Loggins "Lets Hear It for the Boy" - Deneice Williams "Almost Paradise" (Love Theme) - Mike Reno (Loverboy) & Ann Wilson (Heart) "Holding Out for a Hero" - Bonnie Tyler "Dancing In The Sheets" - Shalamar "Im Free (Heaven Helps the Man)" - Kenny Loggins "Somebodys Eyes" - Karla Bonoff "The Girl Gets Around" - Sammy Hagar "Never" - Moving Pictures What I really like about this movie: I especially enjoyed the solo dancing scenes with Kevin Bacon. Great performance! My rating: Plot: 4 stars **** Acting: 4 stars **** Music: 5 stars **** Overall rating: 4 stars**** |
