The essential beagle book was excellent. Full color pages and other pages showing illustrated news about the beagle. I didn’t know these dogs were originally bred to hunt rabbits by the Europeans. This dog also belongs to the basset hound as a cousin. I also didn’t know that thirteen inches separates two species of this dog. The Essential Beagle has nine chapters and index. ISBN: 9781582450193……. 92 pages thick, publisher Howell Book House in 1999. 6-1/4 inches X 7-15/16 inches. Lightweight book and quality photos. The beagle habit seems gentle but after reading this book the beagle has tempers that need tamed and lessoned especially with children. You should never let one take advantage of you as a pet owner. Feeding time has great outcome as the beagle is clear on feeding time with no picky choosing. I didn’t know that beagles must have family or people community fun and play to remain active and fit. Although a beagle when pampered too much can become fat and lazy as the basset is familiar too. You can go to photos and under www.rhynepublishing.com you’ll find this book for sale there in the used books area. I read the book in less than two days between life and leisure times. The dog’s attitude has everything to do with typical beagle problems. Teething, accidents, overbearing to beagles all play major importances. This book explains everything in easy to remember phrases. There was a section about “Time for Rabbits” page 4, I don’t know if this is really a easy task but sounds like it could calm the dog from time to time (instinctual requirement). Page six has the dog’s senses you need to read this and understand them especially a beagle. Flea control is covered on page sixteen. Fleas and ticks on page seventeen. Spaying and neutering was covered on pages 25 and 26. Inherited diseases are common for beagles get use to them and try to make a decision on this because high vet bills will associate this with your wallet. I read five different diseases these dogs are common on which could sink your wallet into the hundreds. Feeding time is so important to read pages 38 and 39. You also need to plan your diet for beagle and how much to feed. I guess these dogs are sensitive on growth and development, allergies, weight control (these dogs when not under supervision can plump out). Grooming is essential and nail trimming can also become an issue. Just like bassets, beagles need ears cleaning page 45 has a viewpoint aspect that you need to read.. …. Book was edited by Ian Dunbar Ph.D. which by me means an excellent print book that all beagles need for there owners. I loved reading this book. I recommend this book highly. |
