GM vehicles come with the door chimer just like any other auto on the market. The problem location refers to audible hook-up for additional receiver (factory installed radios that you want to change out for new hi-tech). This changes your warning features and other audible safety warning systems. You can try to go around or try to jimmy-rig this issue at hand or you can purchase Metra VT-GMRC-01 GM Class II Data bus Interface. This gadget allows a bypass and hook-up with no interuption plus enough wires to do what is most needed. Mount the chime module where you can here it with two slot screw location. I would purchase metal screws because most dash or under-low areas have either plastic or metal underlay. Now plug into the factory plug and your done. DO NOT USE WITH>>>>>>>>>>>> ONSTAR Chimer is super loud, take black electrical tape and wrap one time over chime module, this will cut or reduce sound in half. This is my solution only. I have installed two of these on new radios, one was ageneric brand and the other JVC. This device works well on both with no rocket-sceince involved as long as you connect the harness correctly. Reading instructions would be a great idea. WARRANTY>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> One Year Warranty This device will work with the new radio of your choice because this adaptor comes with it's own chime to warn on safety features inside your auto, one being a door chime when the door is left open. You get a 12 volt power source on this device. Remember without this device when changing out factory installed radios inside GM vehicles your auto will become disabled on safety warning chimes. This could lead to death or injury if your door is not shut and your driving. Wiring harness comes with both female and male connection, not to difficult to understand either connection but to force one connector inside the wrong connector would be more exspense and repair. 10-pin female (white) & 24-pin male (gray). Just remember that 24-pin gray connector to your factory plug and you'll do fine. WHY INSTALL $79 PART>>>>>>>>>>>>> In some states inspection requires door chimes to work while the ignition is on (selling)! Brake lights also run this part! Lights are left on warning! NEGATIVES>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Very loud on chimer, try locating chimer deep & not up close. Why GM runs other safety warnings through the radio is a huge negative and frustrates new auto owners when they change-out the factory radio for any new or Hi-Tech radio replacement. You really shouldn't skip this part when changing out a sterio/radio. This part will transfer all warning safety signals through the small chime attached to this device. Without this device you will not get those signal warning through chime noise just as if you keep the factory installed radio. I rated 4**** because the noise is loud. |
